The University of Kentucky Resident Student Association (RSA) is attempting to "TKO" Hunger this season with their canned food drive. To help reach their goal of 4000 canned goods for charity, they are offering a sweet deal for UK Hockey fans. This Friday November 21st bring 3 canned food items and get FREE admission to the game! Georgetown University has cancelled their trip to Lexington to face off against the Cats this coming weekend. Unfortunately due to the late nature of their cancellation, UK was unable to find another team to take their place. The next home games for Kentucky will be Nov. 7th & 8th against Robert Morris - Peoria.
The 2008-09 UK Hockey team roster is now up on our Roster page. The Cats have some fresh faces this year, with 12 new players taking to the ice for Kentucky.
UK Hockey earned its first win of the season in style on Saturday, fighting back to a 4-3 victory over the Central Michigan Chippewas.
The Cats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but fell behind 3-2 early in the third. A dramatic rally, capped by sophomore Sean Wormald's game-winning goal with 13 seconds remaining punctuated the 4-3 victory, the first of the year for the Cats. The win split the weekend series after the Cats dropped Friday's opener 12-8.
In the minds of many UK hockey fans, Hollywood starlet and Kentucky alumna Ashley Judd will always be the face of the team. Judd posed on the 1998-99 hockey poster, dressed in only a UK hockey jersey with her left side facing toward on-lookers, helping send the popularity of UK hockey to new heights.
This year's model, Emily Cox, said that she remembers "seeing Ashley Judd and then Rebecca Gayheart on those posters when I was younger," and marvels at the idea of joining their ranks. "It's almost surreal, but it's very exciting." Cox, a recent UK alumna and Miss Kentucky 2008, also feels that her strong ties to the university and the state make her selection more meaningful to her.
